[There's a long moment before she replies, because she gets caught on the I'm sorry- like that's something dead people are supposed to hear. Because she remembers the names Gliese had released, about people killed in action, two of whom she'd considered friends- and she can't understand why she came back when they didn't.
She pretends she didn't read it, and pretends that'll be enough.]
[ It's not the same kind of "sorry" that would come from other people - Vriska wouldn't care in the slightest to mourn the death itself unless Ellie didn't come back. But it sucks to be killed; dying itself isn't a pleasant experience, and she genuinely is sorry Ellie had to experience that kind of pain, however it happened. She won't ask. ]

Yes. I could tell you the whole story sometime, though it is pretty fucked up.

8ut something strange happened after all the murdering. People who did the killing started having hallucinations of their victims. Myself included.
FROM: serket.vriska@cdc.org
No one could really explain it. Just spooky mysterious 8ullshit!
FROM: serket.vriska@cdc.org
This doesn't sound that different, to 8e honest with you. People die, something 8izarre happens. Especially when those dead people come 8ack to life.
FROM: serket.vriska@cdc.org
I don't think you need someone who knows something a8out rocks, Ellie. If dead people are vomiting up something, it pro8a8ly goes 8eyond the 8ounds of geology.
[Vriska never makes her feel like an idiot, and she never makes her feel like a child- no matter how stupid some of her thoughts sound to her own ears. Ellie lays curled in the bunk she rarely uses and watches the messages come in one at a time. She loses track of the rise and fall of her chest, but figures she hadn't been counting her breaths to begin with.
Ellie wants to know what the rocks are because she wants to know why she's different. Why she came back wrong- if there's something in her now, that shouldn't have been there before. Maybe there is no answer.]
[ Why is she even talking about this? She doesn't talk to anyone about the hallucinations. At the time she told no one but Elena, and Elena was just the person she finally broke down in front of. It's been a long time since then, but it still feels tearing and awful to even think about.
In fact, she's told no one else since. Were this absolutely anyone else, she'd have backtracked, started needling, changed the subject. Why do you even want to know?
But it's Ellie. ]

No.

Once those 72 hours were up, they stopped completely and never returned.

And Noh came 8ack pretty soon after. I'm still gr8ful to Mothership for that one.

Actually, she might 8e a good person to ask a8out your mysterious 8arf stone.
[ He laughs again, for no other reason than it feels good to do so, and bends to pick up the chocolate. Letting go of her shoulders is almost unpleasant; it's as if he feels like this single apex of feeling is definitive and will never return.
He take the butterfly-shaped chocolate and gives it to her, its plastic cover glinting in the sun. ]
Enjoy it. Share it with Hibari, if you want. It's yours, now.
[ It isn't as if he'll get through all of it on his own. ]
[ rover 26, it was— so, tsuna searches. he walks along, steps hurrying in a fast walk, fingers fidgeting against his palms ( he's kind of nervous— ). when the rover is sighted, he goes forth, at first looking up, around, to make sure if vriska was outside before needing to knock ( where he does, a light clank clank against the rover's door, keeping his head mostly lowered, expression solemn and far away ). instead of the basic cdc storm jackets, given upon arrival, what he's been using— tsuna comes sporting the green team uniform, fresh, neat and lean fitted, probably even had that new clothes smell. he's gone, since that day, treating the wound left by the torn arrow, visiting medical for various changes and rinsing, of alternatives to keep the pain doable. it was only today that someone had offered a healing, which he had been thankful for— he was able to eat with much less discomfort, speaking, even better. gone completely, it isn't— it leaves a jagged pair of scars, a reminiscence that would linger and never fail to remind.
then again, who would forget about that?
pain shaped one just as much as happiness and sadness did. they all walked hand in hand, determining a person's path in life, what they'd learn and what they would choose to do. who they'd be. he's made a choice. he had to make a choice—
and this time, he wouldn't screw up again. not when so many people were counting on him. ]
[ Vriska will answer his knock pretty promptly. Unlike Tsuna, she isn't nervous - but there is an ill feeling in the pit of her gut. Even Hibari had given her a pass, said she couldn't be Tsuna's shield, but she'd been kind of the opposite, hadn't she? Tearing down his reputation and offering up his fate to Armada. She felt guilty in the sense of feeling bad she'd possibly screwed someone Hibari cared for - but she doesn't feel guilty at all for the fact of it.
She did what had to be done.
When she opens the door she's dressed in her own brand new Blue uniform, though less both the cape and the jacket. It fits her small frame well. The look on her face is neutral, and she gives Tsuna and his pulped up face a raised brow. ]
Your face looks gross. [ She turns and waves an airy hand, heading back inside. ] Anyway, come in, let's talk.
